March Visit – Chula Vista

My next orthodontic appointment was scheduled for Monday, March 29, so we planned to drive the Jeep over from Yuma, and spend a couple nights with the kids in Chula Vista. Timing was perfect to be able to include attending a three-hour pickleball clinic from 1-4 on Sunday, March 28.

We arrived around 10:15 am. It was nice to have some time with Isaac and Mona before I needed to leave for the clinic. Barry thoroughly enjoyed his extended time with Justin and the kids.

The clinic was awesome! John and Letha Rodriguez were the Selkirk reps who ran it. They gave us a couple great drills that will be nice to use on our own for additional practice. Near the end of the clinic we played a “regular game”, but had to do a 3rd shot drop followed by 5 dinks, after each serve, before anything goes. It was a fun way to practice those important skills in a truer game setting. Afterwards, they had a drawing for a couple Selkirk gifts. My partner for the clinic, and I were the two winners of Selkirk paddle covers.

Monday morning, I opened the Koala crate on bugs, and helped Isaac and Mona complete the activities it contained. Luckily, no activity was labeled messy in anyway or needing extra time for something to set or dry. Both Isaac and Mona are afraid of bugs, so I was hoping this crate and the books I added would introduce them to cool things about various insects. Isaac made large butterfly wings as he learned a bit about symmetry. Mona made a lady bug pouch. We read one of the bug books that correlated with this crate. Isaac did great playing the matching bug game! Then kids left for the day. I left a short time later for my ortho appointment.

Since we had time to kill after I got back from the orthodontist, Barry and I went to Dick’s Sporting Goods to check out all the available models of the GCI Outdoor Rocker chairs. How nice to be able to check out each one at one place!! We both selected the GCI Comfort Pro Rocker, which is the newest model in the GCI rocker chairs. The Freestyle model was a good runner-up. I suggested getting 2 of each style, but the Freestyle model was a bright red as opposed to this “cinnamon” one that works better with the exterior colors of Vinny.

Tuesday, we spent a lot of time outside at the playground within their housing complex before we packed up and headed back to Yuma. We spent as much time as we could with Isaac and Mona. Barry played hard with them at the playground. I don’t know how many times he climbed up and slid down the curly slide. They adore Papa!

We wanted to get home by dinner time since we were leaving early the next day to go to Phoenix. It was a fairly short visit with the kids, but we hope Justin will come over to Yuma to visit in April, and leave Isaac and Mona with us for for a couple of weeks!
