Insulating the Shed

Since the summer temperatures tend to be three digits here in Yuma, we were advised to insulate our shed. Without insulation the temperature inside the shed rises significantly enough to cause various materials to either become brittle or basically disintegrate. So this weekend we got started.

Home Depot had insulation, but unfortunately, only the R-19 that we would use in the ceiling. We missed getting the R-13 that we needed for the walls by no more than 5 minutes. Another couple had just loaded all available onto their cart. No biggie. We bought the 2 x 4’s for the ceiling and the R-19 that we’d use there.

First, we put the 2 x 4’s across the ceiling.

When we went back a couple days later for R-13 insulation neither Lowe’s or Home Depot had any. We decided to try ordering online. Couldn’t order online with HD, but were able to do so at Lowes.com. In fact, it was ready for pick-up at the store the next day!

Got started cutting the R-13 to fit near the ceiling.

All the insulation is in! So proud of our accomplishment! Barry will still do more stapling, but this is all we will do this year. The plan is to put up drywall, texture the walls and ceiling, and put in a simple workbench, etc next winter.

How lucky we were to have John and Virgie offer up two beefy shelving units to us for a great price. We said “Yes” immediately. Have we mentioned how much we love the people in this community!?!

Barry moved the shelving units into the shed and simply transferred everything from the carport to the shed. We will organize later, especially when we go through to decide what will go back into the motorhome for our summer travels.
