Commitment Made

We’ve been working on the idea of a manufactured home since May as we were preparing to leave Yuma. Granted, this is much sooner than we previously thought we’d be taking this step, but it seems right for us. It will allow us to be relatively close to our grandkids, have great amenities while enjoying winter weather in Arizona, yet still be able to travel a lot. It also gives us a degree of stability with the uncertainty across the country with the Covid-19 pandemic. It also means we no longer need to carry everything we own with us as we travel. It will be nice to have less to move to get to things. We worked really hard before we left Yuma to determine size and floor plan, finishes, colors, etc. Vicki recently submitted our plan to Cavco for the quote regarding the cost of the home as selected.

The Cavco Durango home quote came back. After looking everything over and talking with Vicky, we signed the final paperwork for the $124,000 home, and sent it back to Vicky with our down payment check of $25K. We are now committed to our new home. 🙂 Our home will be delivered in two halves on Oct 22 to Carefree Village Resort. At that time the next $25K. It will likely be an additional 3 weeks or so before we close on the home and are able to start moving in. At that time the balance will be due. We will, however, arrive at Carefree on Sept 24 staying in Vinny on an RV site throughout the remainder of the process timeline. It will be exciting to watch and document the entire process!

OUR lot where the home we just ordered will be put!

Now we have to start thinking and planning for furnishing our new home base. I’ve already been working on an Excel spreadsheet with our priority 1, 2 and 3 items along with an estimated cost for each item. Our plan is to keep with a minimalistic approach to furnishing the home. We do not want every nook and cranny filled with something. I have another couple of spreadsheets from my research on mattresses and bed frames. We decided on the Avocado Green Pillowtop mattress with their adjustable frame (no headboard) for our bed. A must watch is the tutorial on the adjustable base! I did a virtual Zoom meeting with a salesman which yielded a $225 discount on the mattress as well as 15% off accessories! The frame was already $400 off with the 4th of July sale. We can try the mattress out for a full year, and pillows for 90 days! So we ordered it all this weekend. Yes, we ordered it now, but have a hold on it for a November delivery. It is a relief knowing we have that major purchase taken care of. One great resource I found was 14 Best Organic, Eco Friendly and Natural Mattresses in 2020 by Jessica Lauren at Citrus Sleep. Super current – May 22, 2020!!

Also on our Priority 1 list is a washer and dryer that will be able to handle our bedding. I’ve done the research and have the set selected, but will not make the purchase till we are in AZ and can have them delivered directly to the house. We will need two recliners of some sort for us in the living area, and of course a TV. We have time to check things out in Yuma when we are closer to moving in. My major kitchen appliances will be from the motorhome, which for now, we will transfer back and forth. I do plan on buying a second “serving for four” set of the same dishes I use daily in the motorhome, and also the same silverware. Wayfair.com seems to be the best place to order both of these items. It is nice to have our priority list so we can better use our time and not be overwhelmed trying to do everything all at once!
