Living with Social Distancing & Staying at Home–RV style

Even with 100 degree temperatures for a couple weeks, we are managing pretty well here in Yuma. Our days begin with getting up about 6 am and having our Bullet Proof coffee. Then I’m off to play pickleball with a few others. Each person has been in the park here since at least March, and takes the social distancing practices seriously. We continue to swish the ball in a bucket with bleach and water and then rinse it in a bucket of water. We play from about 7 am to 9:30 or so.

Some days Barry joins me at pickleball, but he usually gets his 3-4 mile walk done before it gets too hot. Once we are both back “home”, we get a bite to eat and then lounge in our inflatable pool! Today, our second inflatable pool chair arrived. Oh, how nice it is now that we each have one. We can actually fall asleep when we lay back in the chair. We know how blessed we have been to be here for this entire “stay at home” Covid-19 for spring of 2020!

There are only about 13 RVs now in the main RV area that has at least 450 RV sites! It is so nice and quiet. We thoroughly enjoy our private pool time each day for a couple hours. We actually take naps while in our inflatable pool chair in the pool! It really helps make the heat manageable–till we finally go inside to the air conditioning about 3 PM. Our lack of social interaction has been fine since we both are able to stay physically active and not be completely cooped up in the RV. šŸ™‚

About 8 or 9PM we take a pleasant walk around the park. So nice when there is a nice breeze!

To keep our trips to a store at a minimum I have been using local online ordering of groceries via Instacart delivery from Sprouts Market. I paid $9.99 for unlimited free deliveries for a month. It’s great. Sprouts is 10 miles away. I believe I save time and money since all I get is what is on my list! No spur of the moment purchases! I have had trouble though getting bananas the way we like. Since they ripen so fast, I only want a few at a time and I want them as green as possible- or no bananas. First order they were perfect. Second order they were already ripe, Third order, the shopper got plantains instead of regular bananas! So, I get them at Fry’s about a mile away instead. I also learned to be specific if there is a suitable replacement for EACH item ordered even if a “low inventory” notice is NOT given. If there is not what I consider an acceptable replacement, then I select, “Do NOT replace.” Worked great.

PLANTAINS! These are not regular bananas!

Instacart has been excellent if there is a problem with an order. My last order I didn’t get 2 pounds of cashews as ordered. I only got under 1 pound, but Instacart charged me for 2. I simply took a picture of the Sprouts receipt and my online Instacart receipt. No problem. I as credited me back the amount overcharged.

Next order: I think I finally worded the note on the bananas to get the desired results! Today we got 4 green bananas!! Woohoo!

I was able to get one more order placed before my monthly “membership” expired. Feeling confident about the bananas I upped the quantity on this order from 4 to 5. I also asked for the shopping and delivery to be after 5 PM since we were just heading to the pool. As we headed to the resort pool (it opened a few days ago), I got a text saying Sharon just picked up my order and has started shopping it! Well, crap. We got to the pool and I got in to cool off, but received a text within about 10 minutes that said my order was on the way. So I got out and dried off and drove out to the gate to wait for my shopper to show up. I put away all the groceries. Everything was great…except…yep, you guessed it. The bananas did not have ANY green on them! I give up! I will not order fresh produce that I’m picky about anymore. The rest works out great. It’s important to know what works and what doesn’t. It took me a month, but I now know for sure what I can include and what I can’t on my orders.
