Good Time For Extended Leave From Pio

SEWER, ELECTRICITY, and WATER issues plague Pio!

People thought we were nuts to go up to Menifee August 26 – September 9. They warned how it would be really hot up there. But it had been unusually hot down here! High 90’s and low 100’s. The day it was 115 F in Menifee, it was the same down here AND the electricity was SHUT OFF at Pio due to fires! No pool to use, and people had to run their generator for about 30 hours. Barry and I were cool as cucumbers up at Wilderness Lakes with our full 50-amp running our air conditioners!

Sewer issues mid-August: Stinky water bubbled up at Aaron’s site (E-1), and flowed onto his entire patio area and into the street both directions! Plumbing truck had already been in the park all day, and thought they were ready to leave.

Pee-Yoo! Pee-yew! However you want to spell it, it still stinks!! Aaron confirms it!
Sewer water under the motorhome, onto the patio rugs and to the streets.
Aaron moved his rig out as the flow continued.

We returned to Pio on September 9 for 12 days. The sewer nightmares have continued to plague the park. Luckily, we have not had issues at either of our sites. People have had to move to other sites due to “black water” bubbling up at the sewer connection on their site or a neighbor’s. The plumbing company has been out here on a daily basis, but haven’t fixed the problem. Thousand Trails finally decided to look into what really needs to be done to correct the issue since it was getting quite costly with WorkRight Plumbing. So the digging began. About that time the electricity went out for most of the park. Once again, we lucked out! We still had power and thus air conditioning. All of sections A, B, C, and most of the lease sites were out of power from late afternoon till sometime the next day. That next day people had to move from at least 8 sites in the B row. Those sites were then closed indefinitely.

Today as we were preparing to leave for four days at the beach, we discovered the water was turned off for the entire south side! Rangers were closing the bathrooms not knowing when it would be back on. Supposedly, it was to be back on about 1, but when we left at 1:30 it still wasn’t back on. Electric work was being attended to up in the B row.

Lovely exit from the “better south side”! You’d think they could at least fill the missing plate sections of the one way traffic tire spikeswith dirt or gravel! So now–watch your sides to miss the signs on the right, the roof line of the ranger station, and the two holes near your tires as you exit–all at the same time.

Not exactly the mask modeling you want from rangers when talking with people! Way too close to the window and handing the driver his paperwork! This preserve has experienced significant Covid-19 among staff over the last 3 months. Hmm. I wonder why!?!

As we pulled out we saw the WorkRight Plumbing truck AND RPL Electric to work sewer and electric issues. So glad we are out of there!

The good news: After the firing of various staff including the manager and assistant manager over the last couple months, there are some positive changes occurring–finally! Long term people are having to clean up their sites or leave. Rangers are out and about on golf carts checking outdates and making sure people leave on their outdate! This place could be a great oasis, but it needs money and good management. We will be curious to see how things are when we return briefly mid-December.

Yippee–on to new adventures!!
