A Short Visit with Lynne and Eric

From the time Lynne Ogren and I met in Oak Harbor many years ago, we have been best of friends. Even though our lives moved us both out of Washington, Barry and I have caught up with Lynne and Eric in Alaska, Montana, and two years ago back in Washington. Coming up to Washington again this summer, we arranged to stop at their place in Battleground. Lynne and I pick right up where we last left off! Eric and I still enjoy our “brother-sister” relationship. We arrived on Saturday, July 1 at noon and were able to park Vinny and TJ at their place. It was a custom fit for Vinny!

We enjoyed a casual afternoon and dinner out on their patio. All we wanted for our time in Battleground was to have quality time with Lynne and Eric, and we did. After dinner we went for a walk in the neighborhood where we got to tour Eric’s “new-to-him” boat that was parked at a friend’s house. Eric got his boat just a few days ago, but arranged to park it here, so we could still have the driveway for Vinny.

When we returned from our walk, Lynne and Eric introduced us to the game, Qwirkle by MindWare. I really liked it. Of course Eric significantly pulled ahead to win.

Lynne headed to bed, and Barry retired to Vinny while Eric and I had a friendly game of cribbage. I haven’t played since we in 2018 in Lewistown, Montana! I was definitely rusty. Eric pointed out several times when I had one more “15” that I missed in my hand or crib. Normally, we aren’t that generous to each other. Thank you, Eric. I hope to give you a better game next time!

Sunday we went to church where Lynne is the pastor. It was great hearing her preach. I loved the music that was selected to compliment the message of her sermon.

After church we went out for lunch. Every lunch entree’ was huge!

We were going to go out for fish for dinner, but since we were still full from lunch, we enjoyed a lighter fare of finger foods/snacks and played Sequence. Lynne and I started and finished the first game in record time! We got our two sequences before Eric and Barry could get their first. However, we were soon humbled, and after 5 rounds the boys beat us 3:2. We ended the evening with a game of Qwirkle. This would be a fun game to add to our games. I will look into to ordering one soon!

I have really missed these social times with these Eric and Lynne, but I hold most precious the genuine conversations we have that keep us so personally connected. I hated to leave so soon, but we needed to be “Movin’ On”. Monday we pulled out and drove to the Lakewood Elks where we will be staying for about 1 1/2 months. It is the most convenient location to Barry’s mom (Arlie) in Tacoma. We may, however, drive the Jeep back down to Eric and Lynne’s sometime after Arlie’s BBQ and go out on the water with them. We will play that by ear.
