The Elks & HH -LaNoue Du Bois Winery

Shortly after leaving Blue Mesa TT on July 25th, this little guy was starting across the road and was in the middle of the oncoming lane. When he saw us and leapt back over the guardrail! It’s a good thing because three vehicles immediately came speeding around the curve.

We enjoyed a beautiful drive from Blue Mesa Thousand Trails in Gunnison to the Montrose Elks.

We went to the grocery and got fuel in Montrose, and went back to the Elks where we set up for the night. $20 with electric and a very appreciated strong phone and internet signals!!

July 26
We traveled only about 27 miles down the road to another Harvest Host Winery – LaNoue Du Bois Winery. (This was NOT an inexpensive stop for us, but we enjoyed it. LOL)

We parked adjacent to the vineyard above the river that was down a private-like road on the opposite side of the street. We were the only ones here for the night! It was so peaceful!!

We rode our bikes to the tasting room about 1/4 mile away. We stopped to take pictures of some alpacas along the way and back!

Inside the LaNoue Du Bois tasting room.

Christina took care of us from the time we walked in. We decided on the $10 tasting that included 7 wines. I got the two white wines to myself which of course came first. Barry asked that I hurry it up because he was thirsty. LOL

Of the reds we both preferred the Leon Millot (a French grape that this winery grows due to the climate here). A bottle, however, was $37. ouch. Not sure we liked it that much.

Then we tried the last one, a muscat. Usually, I can’t handle much more than one sip of those, but this one was truly refreshing. I REALLY liked it. Barry even tried it. It was still more than we usually pay for a bottle of wine ($29), but we went for it.

Unique bottle labels!

We loved the wine glasses they use. They felt solid in our hands. We don’t have room for the typical larger wine glasses with long slender stems. We agreed that these would be perfect in Sadie! We asked Christina if we could buy two of them. We told her why we wanted them. Christina went to ask. They let us buy two at $7.50 each.

What a pleasant time we had tasting the wines and now ready to head “home” with a bottle of wine and two glasses perfect for traveling.

Hops grown down the road.

We enjoyed our peaceful site overlooking the river for the rest of the evening.

The sunset was stunning!
