RioGrande Winery with Pickleball!

May 10, 2025, we arrived at our third Harvest Host within the week! This one was the Rio Grande Winery in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Oh, yeah, this stop will be costing us some money. 🙂

Parking was super easy and a perfect distance away from the action. The parking lot will be full tonight. We did get one larger class A motorhome that came in. We were spaced apart nicely. 🙂

OMG–did I really see pickleball courts here!?! Yep. There were four courts outside. People drinking and pickleball? hm…Well, it was mainly families just hitting the ball around, a couple ladies playing in sandals.

Barry and I got a single flight of 4 wines. The only one we really liked was their Malbec. Thus the glass that’s missing (Barry). LOL

A band arrived to play from 6-9 PM. They played a great variety of music! We got a bottle of Malbec and ordered 4 small homemade empanadas, and the Niçoise salad.

The Niçoise came with a much larger filet of seared tuna than we expected. The flavor and tenderness were both perfect. The vinaigrette with the mixed greens, green beans, and hard-boiled eggs was very light so as not to overpower the delicate flavors . It was all delicious- or we were just super hungry because somehow our order got missed. An hour and a half later it got put in, so we were given two complimentary desserts. Unfortunately, the homemade blackberry-cream cheese croissants, chocolate ones, and almond ones were all three already gone, so our waitress brought use some fudge, and a serving of tiramisu. I was excited when she said tiramisu, but I knew when I saw it that it was likely to disappoint. It did. I was glad we didn’t pay for it. I’m a bit of a tiramisu snob. I’ve had “orgasmic” tiramisu –and this one wasn’t even close. I’d rate it a 4 or 5 (out of 10). We each tried the fudge, but as rich and sweet as fudge always is, we tossed the additional pieces.

Barry and I decided to get our paddles to play a little skinny singles. We decided to play a little skinny singles to work off the wine and dessert. 🙂

Backyard Pizza was onsite providing pizzas on the smaller size. It smelled so good, so we ordered one to take home for tomorrow. Since they made the wrong one for us, they told us to go ahead and keep it. They’d made the right one and brought it over to our rig. How nice!

The first one was a sweet & spicy. We were afraid it would be too hot, but it ended up our preferred one. The crust though did not compare to the thin crispy one (and GF) at Johnny Ringo’s in Tombstone. (Used air fryer mode the next night to reheat nicely for dinner.)

LOTS of people were showing up to play pickleball as we were getting ready to leave in the morning! Apparently, people regularly use these courts in the mornings, but we needed to move onto our next destination. 🙂 We enjoyed our overnight stay.

Tomorrow we make it to Carlsbad Caverns! Excited.
