Relaxing at New Braunsfel, TX

Sunday, May 25, we arrived in New Braunsfel, Texas for four nights at Canopy RV Resort.  It’s a beautiful place full of pecan trees.

Really nice place with two very nice pickleball courts!

Unfortunately, there were no players other than Barry and me. 🙁   We played skinny singles every day. Barry is better at skinny singles than I am. Maintenance guys were nice enough to come over immediately, and blew off any puddles of water from the nighttime rain!

The pool was awesome!  Huge grass area within the pool area and all along the area beyond between the rows of pecan trees. They even had a bouncy house and slide for kiddos. There was a decent band playing on May 25 for the Memorial Weekend.

We enjoyed the shade provided by the “mushroom” fountain feature. I liked that I could just sit in this shallow water to stay cooled off.

Barry graduated to a lounge chair in the shade with a beer prior to a nap. 🙂

Earlier in the day on the 27th, we had to start back further to be in the shade. Nice we could always find some. 🙂 Not many people here today.

An evening swim:

Barry’s new friend? LOL

Time to do some laundry. This was a really nice set up. You could pay by coins OR by credit card if you simply downloaded the app. Loved it! Hope to find this as we continue traveling and needing to do laundry along the way. This is one of the biggest adjustments from Vinny, but so far it has been working out just fine.

Our last two nights we had severe thunderstorms. The first one had two major storm cells that were tracking to converge on New Braunsfel and likely spawn tornadoes. Great 🙁  This happened last year in April when we were in Texas and Oklahoma, but this is the end of May, not the first half of stormy April!

About 9 PM we drove Sadie over by the building where a couple of showers were located.  We shared the bathroom/shower “safe” area with two great guys for a little over an hour. When I checked the Texan Storm chasers on YouTube again along with my weather app, the two systems were no longer converging on us! The one storm cell apparently fizzled out, and the other one weakened. Severe winds and possible tornado danger was gone. We felt safe to return to our Rv’s. Barry and I drove back to our site, but parked further away from the pecan tree that bordered our site.

The second night we woke to serious rolling thunder. We could feel it rolling right over Sadie from the rear to the front. It was crazy how loud it was for a good 15-20 minutes. It continued but it had moved further beyond us.

Tomorrow we go to Ft Worth.
